The Ultimate Preteen Gift Guide for Parents

The Ultimate Preteen Gift Guide

Tweens, Tweenies, Tweenagers, Teeny Boppers, Teeny McTeensters, Preteens: whatever you call these sweet little angels, there’s no doubt about it, they’re a tricky bunch to shop for. It’s pretty apparent preteens nowadays are far more advanced. When I was 12 years old, I was making mixed cd’s on my clunky old PC that ran AOL on dial-up. It’s typical today to see 12-year-olds are cruisin’ around on hoverboards, with a tiny computer in their pocket encouraging them to speak a completely different ‘language’ (btw, lol).

Times have changed significantly so we put together this Ultimate Preteen Gift Guide as a reference for parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and anyone else finding that perfect preteen gift. You are bound to find something cool in this gift guide.

1. Nerf N-Strike MEGA Series RotoFury Blaster ($60.00)

Nerf Guns are sure to impress your preteen, especially if you pick up a monster like this one! It’s battery-powered and shoots out nerfs automatically by a pull of the trigger. You know your preteen is so pumped to destroy his friends in a nerf gun war. That’s why we put it as #1 on our preteen gift guide.

2. MonoRover Hoverboard ($299)

The R2 model, in particular, seems to be the most popular. The preteen age group loves the futuristic non-hovering hoverboards. What’s really amazing about getting your kid on a hoverboard is watching them jump right on it and take off. Mustering up the courage to ride the hoverboard is hard for us, but your preteen is an instant expert.

3. 14 in 1 Solar Powered Robot  ($29.99)

As the educational pick to the preteen gift guide, this solar powered robot is seriously cool. It easily changes into a wagging tail, running beetle, walking crab, surfer, speedster or, to my personal favorite, the zombie chaser. The solar powered robot is a great way for kids to learn about renewable energy sources and green technologies.

4. Google Cardboard ($15)

The Google cardboard virtual reality set is an affordable, exciting, and tech-savvy gift. Watch your preteen immediately bust it out and start flying over their favorite sports stadium or sail down a 30-story roller coaster. Google cardboard works for iPhones and Androids alike. This one is a must-include for our preteen gift guide.

5. A Mini Drone ($26.99)

These tiny hovering planes are crazy cool, and they’re great for practicing hand-eye coordination. Drones can cost you a pretty penny, but the SainSmart Jr. Mini Drone makes a wonderful gift for a beginner drone flyer.

6. IlluStory Make Your Own Book ($19.28)

IlluStory-preteen-gift-guide

The IlluStory Make Your Own Book is probably my favorite on the preteen gift guide. It’s a must-have for kids interested in English or Literature. The IlluStory gives your preteen the ability to write and design a book and even have it published. Imagine the look on their face when they receive their own written and published book in the mail!  IlluStory helps children learn the book making process at a young age.  The world always needs more creative people in it, and, who knows, maybe your preteen is the next J.K. Rowling.

7. SainSonic Bluetooth Speaker ($16.90)

What preteen doesn’t love music? These little mushroom Bluetooth speakers are portable, unique, and they actually pack quite a bit of noise for their size. They come in blue, teal, and pink.

8. FujiFilm Instax Mini ($56.99)

The little FujiFilm polaroid camera takes great pictures and gives your preteen the hip, nostalgic vibe! It’s classy and cool– the perfect fit for a guy or gal that likes capturing the moment and savoring it with a hard copy photograph. The only negative about the product is the expensive film not included with the camera and may get pricey.

9. Ariana Grande Bluetooth Headphones ($149.99)

These are on the pricey end of our preteen gift guide, but worth the money for the right preteen girl. Ariana Grande has come out with these wireless headphones used for music, gaming, and phone calls. Not only is the design attractive to your kid, the high-quality sound makes for the complete experience. Something equivalent for a preteen boy is the Beats By Dre headphones.

10. Spikeball Combo Set ($59.99)

One of the most obvious items in our preteen gift guide is sporting equipment. Giving your kids an unconventional game to try might be the adventure and challenge they need. Spikeball is a competitive game that’s great to play with friends indoors or outdoors. A bonus sporting game to add to the list is badminton

Now that you’ve got some gift ideas we hope you feel a little more confident in finding something special for your favorite preteen. Let us know in the comments if there is something huge we left out, or if you have any awesome suggestions to add!
